A Hit! And a Miss!

Craft Fair Season is well under way!! We've had several shows so far, some hits, some misses. But that's all par for the course as far as these things go. I can't make my mortgage at every show!! This photo above was taken at the Tylersport Fire Co. show which turned out to be a decent day for us. The hubby constructed the new display for the paintings so we wouldn't have to lug the large shelves in this time. I knew there wouldn't be a lot of room but I still wanted to showcase the paintings. Didn't he do a good job?? It was this display that brought a lot of people over to the table (another vendor saw the paintings from across the way and had to come check it out, and would up buying one of the small canvases!). The one on the far right is my favorite beach pour (there's a full shot of it in the last post) and I was super sad but also super happy to have sold it that day! I know it went to a good home and the owner will enjoy it for years to come.
I also made a lot of good contacts at this show. My business cards were flying off the table to both people interested in my work but who didn't have a lot of money to spend, to people who bought something and wanted to know my contact info and where I'd be next (I gave out those lists as well) to people who either run or have a close friend who runs similar shows in the summer or fall and want to pass along my info to them.
This was a good show and I left feeling tired, but glad I had chosen this show over the many others I had been looking at for that particular date. I also left with a contact who was interested in me doing a paint party at her house for her teen daughter or some friends/family. We have already been in contact and are in the process of setting something up. This will be super exciting for me and a little nerve-wracking since it'll be my first time. But how fun is that?! A paint night at your house!! This could turn into something fun!!

Then there was last weekend. A major dud. Despite my awesome display, I did not sell one item. This was at the South Mall in Allentown and the second event I've done through Events by Jennifer Lynn. The first one had the same results. Not one item sold. I don't think it's the fault of the company I went through, I think it was a combination of bad location and wrong time of year. There was hardly any foot traffic despite the Easter Bunny being there and a kids scavenger hunt going on. A handful of people stopped by the table and really seemed to like the artwork, but no sales. It was disappointing.
But I won't let one bad show get me down. I am registered for two more events through this company in the summer which are outdoor events (June 1 and August 3) so I am hoping the outdoor locations (both are in parks, one with food trucks!!) will make for a better day in sales!
I did showcase a new item this weekend: partly made out of boredom, partly because I needed a raffle item to turn in upon arriving. Wine glass charms. Pictured below are the beach themed charms, I also had some pawprints and some sparkly hearts. We'll see how they do at the next show, April 27. Hoping this one won't be a dud as well.
As always, I would love to see all of you at these shows! There are always a lot of incredibly talented artisans there and Mother's Day is coming!! Why not give mom something one-of-a-kind this year? Even if it's not from my table! Come support artists everywhere!!

Spring Craft Show Kickoff!!

It's Spring!!!
Okay, maybe not quite. And there's still snow on the ground. And I'm still working on the winter fat. BUT...the spring craft fair season is kicking off this weekend!!
I have a lot of new items, including this lovely ocean pour pictured above. I think I've really found my niche in the acrylic pour world with beach and ocean themes. There will be several new paintings like this at this weekend's show in Allentown and I plan on experimenting over the coming weeks with different shades of blue and green to get some more interesting effects.

I've also done some playing with pouring on other objects, the vases were a big hit last year. Pictured above are some tile coasters. Plenty of coats of sealer on them so they won't chip. I've got 5 sets ready to go for tomorrow.

The bad news is, I won't be at the very first show of the year. After registering for this event, a family emergency arose and I will be out of town. Luckily, my wonderful husband will be taking my place. His parents were craft show vendors for years when he was growing up so he's no stranger to the routine. Plus, he helped me at all the shows last year so he knows how I like the table to look. Isn't he just wonderful?

So if you're in the Allentown area tomorrow, stop by and see my hubby and all my crafts. And check out my list of upcoming events here on the sidebar!

Craft Show 1 Recap

Well, I learned a lot this past weekend.
1. Bring layers. Even though it was indoors and June, it got chilly.
2. Bring bags and wrappings to make it easier for customers to carry items.
3. Read the fine print in the show description
That was the most important. A craft show and a flea market are two totally different events, drawing vastly different crowds. This particular one was a flea market. I did okay, but from now on I plan to focus mostly on events that ask for "handcrafted items only". I think I'll do better that way.
Next show is July 27 in Pennsburg, the St. Philip Neri Car Show, Craft Fair and Flea Market, 4-9 pm. Rain date July 28, 10-3.
Then August 18, Hecklerfest at the Heckler Plains Farmstead, 10-3.
Next one I'm registered for after that is August 25, The Friends of Upper Dublin Public Library outdoor craft fair, 9-3, Mondauk Common Park. This is a handcrafted items only show.

Fingers crossed the handcrafted items only shows yield better results!

Spotlight!! My favorite this week!

This week in preparation for the craft show, I am banging out a LOT of pieces. This one here, Gadget & Penny: At the Dock is my all time favorite so far! I can just see my real life Gadget & Penny doing this. Though I'm sure one of them (Gadget) would fall in the water...

Chalfont Craft Show This Weekend!!

This Saturday, June 23 from 8-1 Boe Baubles will be selling Gadget & Penny pieces, Scrabble art and some other kitty-related art. All pieces are handmade by me (Beth Boe), while the real Gadget & Penny watch and/or get in the way.
I am very excited and, I'll admit, a little nervous. This will be my first craft show and I have NO CLUE what to expect. Will I have too much product? Not enough? Will I sell out (which would be awesome, by the way)? Will I go crazy getting everything completed before Friday night? That's an almost certainty.
My son graduates from high school Thursday night (yay Ben!), and maybe I should've looked at the calendar before signing up for this particular show to be my first. Oh well, water under the bridge now! It will be an experience, I'm sure. But the hubby will be there the whole time with all the support and love he can give me.

Hope to see you there!

Welcome!

A little about Boe Baubles:
Boe Baubles was created in January of 2018 when Beth (who would become Beth Boe later that year) decided to start selling some of the crafty little things she had made to make her house a home or she had gifted to friends and family. It started with faux stained glass, which is still available upon request, and has since morphed into a mixture of Scrabble art and the Gadget & Penny line of Pebble Kitties! Those are EXTREMELY popular!
The Gadget & Penny line was inspired by the kittens Beth and her husband adopted in the fall of 2017. It took them weeks to come up with the perfect names for them and boy do they fit! Gadget, like his namesake Inspector Gadget, is kind of a doofus, he tries but he's constantly getting himself into trouble. And mommy photographs every move to post on thier very own Instagram account @gadget_penny. Penny, like Inspector Gadget's niece, is very smart and while she causes her own share of trouble, she's not quite as blundering as her brother. Together, they cause all sorts of mayhem and mommy wouldn't have it any other way, except when they get up on top of the kitchen cabinets and knock the wine glasses down...
The Gadget & Penny line started with the need to fill a spot on the wall at the Boe home. The first piece (Gadget & Penny Birdwatching) was easy to make and looks just adorable hanging next to the Lovebirds on the living room wall. Then the wheels started turning and the rest of the pieces came together. So far in the line we have:

Gadget & Penny: Birdwatching
Gadget & Penny: At the Dock
Gadget & Penny: Catnaps
Gadget & Penny Clear the Table
Gadget & Penny: Howl at the Moon

Some planned pieces include:

Gadget & Penny Go Camping
Gadget & Penny Go to the Fireworks
Holidays with Gadget & Penny

Stay tuned for pictures of the new pieces as they are made!!

Here is the original Gadget & Penny: Birdwatching; It has changed slightly since then, more leaves most notably, but for the most part, this is the template.
